Unhyeongung, a former royal residence located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, holds deep historical roots as the childhood home of Emperor Gojong. It was here that he was raised until he ascended the throne in 1863 at the age of 12.

This palace was founded during the 19th century by Heungseon Daewongun, the prince regent of Korea, who is known for his significant but often controversial policies that shaped the era.
