"You will be picked up at your hotel in Colombo at 5:30 am and then start heading to Pinnawala (approx. 2 hours / 110km).En route stop by one of the largest elephant orphanages in Sri Lanka where they rear elephants that were lost to their herds by human-elephant conflict and fell into pits. Most of them are baby elephants. The elephants are fed at the orphanage and bathed in the nearby Maha Oya river twice a day. Kandy Day Tour with Visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
"We will pick you up at 8:00 am and start heading towards Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. It was funded in 1975 by the Department of Wild Life Conservation on a 25-acre coconut plantation on the Maha Oya River. The orphanage was established to feed nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. The best time to visit is the feeding time and the bathing time when all the elephants are taken to the river close by. On the way you can see the spice garden followed by Kandy Ro 147 acres in extent with more than 4000 species of rare and endemic trees and plants as well as flora from the tropical world. You do not want to miss the Orchid House that has more than 300 varieties of exquisite orchid from the rare indigenous Foxtail and Vesak orchids.
