Phuket Things to Do

  • Phi Phi Islands

    4 out of 5 stars

We booked with Phuket Tours Direct to go on the HongTae Tours trip to Phi Phi island. After travelling an hour to the port and sitting through the 45mins safety session we were informed that my 5 month pregnant wife could not go on the boat. After showing the tour operator her medical certificate (as we knew this could be a problem) they were...

  • James Bond Island

    4 out of 5 stars

If you plan to visit James Bond Island, think again. Firstly, price for tour package is very tricky. We joined with the group tour for same trip but some of them paid THB3,000 per person, other paid THB1,500 or THB1,300, and we paid THB980 per person. Secondly, the tour guide (Johnny) has bad attitude, didn't speak good English, aggressive, and...

  • Patong Beach

    3.5 out of 5 stars

I think that Patong beach and Ban Patong must be the same thing. Or not? Anyway, I'll post my Patong beach comments in Ban Patong page. And Patong was precious for us. With the monsoon, Kata beach was unsafe, so we came often to Patong, where only the dark green colour of the water and the many algae denounced the rough sea. No problem to the...

We usually do not eat at seafood restaurants along the beach road but many years ago we did have a nice meal at Tantawan Seafood Restaurant. So one night recently we were walking past and decided it was time to eat here again. They have a huge selection of fresh seafood including platters on display so I chose the Seafood Platter for 2 which...

  • Austrian Garden Restaurant - Patong...

Finally, somewhere in Phuket that knows how to make a good creamy pepper sauce with green peppercorns, it must be because they have an Austrian Chef as that sauce is the best we have had in Phuket. The Austrian Garden restaurant is modern and very comfortable with an open kitchen. It is also a good spot for people watching along Soi Eden. Staff...

  • Irish Times Pub

Sometimes service can be extremely slow at the Irish Times and the meals can also be a bit hit and miss. Not sure why but it has been like this for quite a few years. The Irish Times has a similar menu and prices to Molly Malone's so it is more expensive than most places as they also add on taxes. I did get a bit worried when I ordered a chicken...

We went into this show a bit dubious .... I mean after all it is essentially a lady/boy dress-up miming show, so you really cant have any high expectations! We hired Petch Khammanochat to visit several places of interest in Phuket. It turned out to be a very bad experience. We gave him an itinerary of the places we wanted to visit but he had excuses for not going to some of those places (Phanga Bay was too far, temple is no longer functioning, heavy traffic etc.). But he could take us to shop although...

In all organized tours it is mandatory to see several production units of local crafts, ending in a large store that is the REAL reason that took you there. Southern Thailand may have some of the beautiful beaches in the world but the problem here is that during the monsoon season (from may to october), the beaches facing the Andaman Sea like Patong, Nai Harn, Karon, etc, experience strong waves and rip tides. It has claimed 20 people in the last 10 years and they usually place red flags at the beaches...

Top 10 Coastal Drives: Phuket

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

While the majority of the resorts on Phuket are centered on the south and western shores, a few VirtualTourist members suggested driving along the Northeast loop to get a "behind the scenes" view of island life. By turning off Route 402 at the Heroines Monument circle, drivers head on a 6.8 mile (11 km) loop on the far Northeast tip of the island. The loop provides the opportunity to see excellent bay views and small fishing villages, a nice change of pace from the busy beach resorts on the opposite side of the Thai island.
