BYRON SOARING CENTRE
Nothing can match the sensation of soaring through the air without an engine whirring away. You can experience gliding here at the Tyagarah Airfield, just north of Byron Bay.
You don't need any experience, just to along for the ride, and the instructor will fly for you. Modern large two-seater sailplanes make great aircraft to feel at one with the airwaves. They are great for taking photos from, so be sure to take your camera along and view the area from the air. It gives you another perspective of what this coast is like.
There are a selection of flights, at varying lengths. You can view the Gold Coast, Mount Warning, Great Divide Range, and Cape Byron with it's historic lighthouse. It's another great opportunity to look for dolphins and whales as well. This really is a Must Do, and you get so much for your money. Prices range from $90 - $325 (Australian dollars). Even the $90 to the Lighthouse and back is very good value and great scenery.
Equipment: Camera and sunglasses. If you are prone to motionsickness, you may like to take preventatives or slip a plastic bag into your pocket. Drink water before you go up.
Address: Tyagarah Airfield, Cloud Street.
Directions: 6 km north of Byron Bay, exit the Pacific Highway into Grays Lane then turn left into Cloud Street. The airfield is easily visible from the Pacific Highway.
Open 7 days and pickups available.

Join one of the diving centres in Byron Bay on a trip to Julian Rocks. Supposed to be one of the best spots in NSW, and is just a 1/2 h boatride from the coast. When I was there, we saw big turtles, wobbegong sharks and many colourful fishes.

We heard that the sunrise at Mt Warning were supposed to be beautiful, so we got up at 3.30 o'clock in the morning... It was really dark, and we just the heard animals around us, but we didn't see much until we were almost at the top. The last part you have to climb, but then you are at the top. Unfortunately it was clouded when we reached the top... No sunrise... But I guess it would have been nice. :o) At least the hike itself was interesting, big trees, animals and birds. Quite nice. Have to go back later to catch up that surise...

Have you heard about "Byron Beach Resort", it is a nice hotel in a characteristic part of Byron Bay and close to the shops, bars and restaurants. Clean rooms, friendly reception staff which provided us with a lot of great city tips and other handy information!
..on Marvel Street are the best - top people top gear and all in all highly recommended!
I did the SSI open water course there, and then several dives and had a great time. Julian Rocks is a great dive site.
Equipment: Bought my snorkel and mask there and still going strong 2 years later....
