Northern Beaches Restaurants Tips (5)

Pittwater RSL Club: Good food for a low price (part II).

It's quite simple. RSL Clubs are all over Australia. The RSL evolved as a direct result of the camaraderie, concern and mateship shown by the "Diggers" for the welfare of their mates during and after the 1914 - 1918 War. That ethos of compassion and service remains today the motivating influence of the League. To eat at the RSL you must me at least 18 and first join the RSL and complete an application form.

Pittwater RSL is located on the beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney. Half way along the coast between world famous Manly and Palm Beaches. We read that the entire RSL Club is set on 9 acres with plenty of facilities, like weekly events, golf club and terrace with kids play area. We had our mind set on a diner and hiked our way up the brasserie that can accommodate over 180 guests. This newly stylish restaurant did re-open and is simply fantastic! Food, atmosphere, style, music, value for money -> It's got it all!

Favorite Dish It's always a buffet and is at offered at the lowest price. We had (for example):

* Chicken Hawaii;
* Fried chicken;
* All kinds of salads;
* Some sandwiches.
* Etc.

Palm Beach R.S.L. Sub Branche Club Ltd: Ridiculous order process!

The Barrenjoey Bistro is a highly popular food court and is located towards the back of the club and adjoins a delightful beer garden with sheltered tables and a bird aviary. The food available at the bistro is best described as modern Austrailian fusion cuisine and doesn't take a specific category, but it is, nonetheless, delicious.

The process to order was rather ridiculous. We had to queue up to order which took us about 30 minutes. When I go out with friends or relatives, I do not expect to spend a decent portion of time waving to them back at the table whilst the 'order deligation' inches forward in a queue. We'll give them the benefit of the doubt and put it down to teething problems and will return some day, because the food was great and does have potential.

Favorite Dish We've sampled most of the menu - the rack of lamb, steak or scampi are all favourites and the pizza and nibble platters are cheaper options that won't disappoint. This restaurant is drawing the crowds in so you may need to book ahead for a table.

The Oaks: Fun for locals and visitors alike

From the Circular Quay, The Oaks can be gotten to by a short 20 minute ferry ride followed by a 15 minute walk up the hill. I went on a Wednesday where the crowd was light due to the mid-week, but it was still a popular place. We enjoyed the outdoor tables and the gourmet pizza. Never having had a Australian pizza before, I was impressed and delighted!

There is a unique variety of toppings. The crust is thin, sauce is light and the toppings are the feature. We enjoyed the ham and pineapple where the toppings were blended and flavorful. We also had the grilled lamb - which was surprising to me because each of the quarters was a meal that included a large portion of lamb cooked divinely, and greens in a light dressing.

There are 2 grills, 1 outdoors and 1 indoors, where you can order then grill your own meat. The blocks seemed to enjoy this immensely. The beer is great, and the ambiance excellent. The place is chuck full on weekends and during rugby games.

Northern Beaches Restaurants: Newport Arms Hotel

A nice place, day or night, to enjoy a meal and/or drink on the water facing Pittwater.

It's a really nice place, so if you head up towards the upper Northern Beaches, I strongly suggest coming here at least for a drink!

Favorite Dish The Burger! Yum yum! The Chicken Snitzel is pretty good too.

Syvia & Fran's The Upper Crust: Eat a Meat Pie

This is an awesome little pie shop in Collaroy. Walk right in, order what they have available, and chow down.

Favorite Dish They have a variety of pies to choose from. You can't go wrong with one of their chicken pies, especially the chicken in white wine sauce with cheese topping. If you're not feeling chicken, you could always get a lamb & rosemary pie with garlic and red wine. Delicious. If you're daring, and would like to spice it up a bit, you could order the mexican pie.
