North Terrace venues, Adelaide
This is a tourist spot because it is located inside the former Adelaide Railway Station, an imposing heritage building right in the heart of the city. As a casino, expect the usual gambling dens full of table games and poker machines. There are pubs and restaurants that offer entertainment shows.
Dress Code: Neat casual, but this is Australia where casual may include dress shorts!

The Cavern Club on North Terrace. Adelaide has some great music venues, but this isn't one of them. Drinks are overpriced, service is slow, there's no drinks on tap, so you have to buy the expensive beers. The men's toilets are a joke.
Address: North Terrace
We went here for one night on a Saturday in 2003. Could not believe how amazing the atmosphere and music were. Many DJs, go-go dancers and great vibe.
There were signs everywhere about how females should not leave their drinks unattended or let strangers by them drinks. (Spiking = Roofies).
Paying the $10 cover gave us access to two other clubs next door. We stayed late into the am and could not stop dancing!

Based on the Cavern Club in Liverpool, UK. Being underground, you can lose track of time very easily, especially when you've had a few to drink! Funky, retro, psychadelic 60's look, with genuine Beatles memorabillia on display, and for sale. There's a funky orange beatles van parked upstairs near the entrance. Cool live music several nights a week. One thing that really stands out is the mixture of age groups, the Cavern seems to appeal to all ages, each time there, I saw people ranging from teens to retirees. They have their own Beatles tribute band too!
Dress Code: Neat casual seems to be the go.
Address: Corner Bank St and North Tce

A visit to the Treasury bar is a perfect way to end a busy, hectic week in Adelaide. Its clientele are strictly white collar - it is a haunt of goverment, legal and finance types but the smashing cocktails outside on a balmy evening is just paradise. There are plenty of tables outside or if it is coolish there are a few spots around the bar indoors.
The staff are a little aloof - but who can blame them as this place is just so busy on a Friday evening!
The accomodation at the Medina Treasury is also world-class. The building, funnily enough, was the old South Australian Treasury and has been lovingly restored to its former grandeur and then some.

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra holds an annual outdoor concert at Elder Park In March which is aptly named Symphony Under the Stars due to its nighttime performance. The concert culminates in a display of fireworks, albeit a very brief one.
Heaven features DJ's from home and abroad, Newmarket Hotel is a regular nightclub, perhaps slightly more upper class than other night clubs (they can have some very picky bouncers at the door). Go here if you want an easy to find, solid venue, if you're lucky an act you like might be on next door in Heaven.

I haven't actually been inside Skycity Adelaide myself but it's far and away the most popular single venue in Adelaide and always seems to get the thumbs up from passengers I've picked up from there.
More of an older/formal occasion crowd compared to the nightclubs. Since this venue has been in private hands it hasn't looked back, and it's the only place I know of with valet parking.
It's situated on North Terrace, bordered by the Festival Centre, State Parliament and Convention Centre.
Dress Code: Smart casual, or formal attire. Neat and tidy seem to be the general requirements.
