the City of Bridgetown
Bridgetown, population about 110'000, is the capital city of Barbados and home to one quarter of the island's residents. The city was settled by the British in 1628, while the nearby area/quarter called the Garrison is right nearby, on the southern part of town. When the British arrived, the entire island was uninhabited but there was evidence of a...

ZR minivans for the south coast
The best way to move around the south coast is by ZR minivans, which are share minivans with about 14 seats. They ae usually painted in white and have a maroon stripe. Look for the number at the front, at it will tell you the route it goes... tourists normally need to use number 11 as it runs the coast road from Oistins to Fairchild Street terminal...

Old Cannons
These cannons are nothing special, but since there's not much to see in Oistins, I thought I'd mention them. Plus, if you like history, like I do, it's something that might interest you. There are a total of around 400 cannons, that have been found in Barbados. The cannons are mostly from the English and British colonial period, and are scattered...

Picturesque Beaches
Nestled between beautiful rock formations, and beautiful mountains, jutting straight into the Atlantic Ocean, Bathsheba's beaches are among the most picturesque, on the entire island, and there are several to chose from. One of the island's most iconic features, this giant piece of fossilized coral is known by many names including, "Bathsheba Rock", "The Great Rock", "Balance Rock" and "Sea Stack Rock". But for obvious reason, most locals and visitors call it, "Mushroom Rock". This giant piece of prehistoric limestone coral, is located at the eastern most end of...

St. Lawrence Anglican Church
We were actually in Barbados for 5 days, before we found out about this church, and this was another one of those neat little attractions that we discovered completely by accident. As we had never walked this far up the street before, we had no idea this church was here, until one of our guides drove by it, while taking us back to our hotel. After...

Pie Corner Off The Beaten Path
Walk along the Little Bay (north east part of the island). Take a bus with one transfer to this peaceful coastline area. We walked miles here for a whole afternoon, NONE else was there but us! Magnificent view. If you are brave enough, you can climb up to the top of this Donut Hole arch. You can hear the wave soaring, deep blue water splashes...

Just Walk Here
The town of Worthing literally borders St. Lawrence Gap. As soon as you reach the spot where the St. Lawrence Gap sign is, on the western edge of town, you're in Worthing. Greame Hall Nature Sanctuary is about a mile from Dover Hotel. So if you're staying in St. Lawrence Gap, which you mostly likely are, there is no sense in taking a bus or cab, as...

Holetown Methodist Church
The first Methodists arrived on Barbados in 1789, with the intent on Christianizing the island's salves. However, their early efforts were unsuccessful, and after 2 decades, they had just 30 converts. In addition, their efforts were not welcomed by the plantocracy, who viewed them as being anti-slavery. In 1823, their first meetinghouse, the James...

Holetown Monument
This small monument can easily be overlooked, as it's not exactly eye catching. Visitors can easily walk by and not even take a second glance. This small and unimposing obelisk in the town center, was erected in 1905 to honor the 300th anniversary, of the first English landing on the island, which took place on one of the nearby beaches.
