When you get to San Jose and are ready to go out and have a great time, start asking around and find out where the really big club scene is in town. Away from the direct downtown, I think that we had headed north and east a bit, only like a 10 minute drive. This party club central was full of, I kid you not at least 30 bars and clubs inside a 3 block radius. It was just insane, every two feet was a different club or bar all full of beautiful people and great latin salsa and mambo music playing.
Coming from the united states, we were horrible dancers compared to the local people that were at the clubs. But very soon we were able to dance and mover just like the rest of them. Early in our trip, we had been to many bars and clubs where we learned how to dance with our driver (from San Ramon) and from then on had kept practicing. We went out our last night in Costa Rica to this club central and danced our brains out until ~5AM and had a blast. I highly recommend all visitors to San Jose to check this out.
San Jose upscale neighborhood offers various night spots and bars.....Come early go home late......Spent all night drinking Heinken beer (Heinken has a production plant in Costa Rica) and had the time of my life only spent $30 US.....relatively safe, but you must go at night with people who live in San Jose, as a tourist it would be very easy to get lost and very dangerous if you didn't speak some kind of Spanish, the great majority of the upperclass come to the USA for secondary education, so English is spoken widely, but for getting around at night.....extreme caution is advised !!!
