Me and my wife Amy recently decided to go on the Negril Sunset Day Tour with Travel Around Jamaica Tours from the Beaches Resort in Montego Bay. • A Mall for tourists

    Negril Shopping

It seems to exist a great dualism in Jamaica's life - tourists for one side, locals for the other. Anywhere else I saw a so distinctive commercial structure, with malls exclusively for tourists. Was it a wrong idea? This mall, as several other that I visited, has almost nothing to sell in common life - only jewels and touristy staff. I felt cold, in...

    4.5 out of 5 stars

    Ocho Rios Things to Do

It's the top attraction of Ocho Rios, and maybe of Jamaica. Advertised as among the most famous falls in the world, we must be aware that it comes from the fun of climbing it, and not for its spectacularity. There is no comparison for instance with Niagara or Iguaçu falls, but along its 180 meters there's always people laughing. The water is...

    Ocho Rios Things to Do

Beaches are the best program in Caribe and Ocho Rios is no exception. Our resort had a couple of artificial beaches and a natural good one, but the best that I saw out of Negril was Dunn's River beach. Everybody concentrates in the falls and forget the beach, what is unfair. It´s really a very good beach, a few kilometers west of town.

    Montego Bay Things to Do

When you read in a brochure or advertising that your hotel is in "Montego Bay" be prepared to stay a few (or many) kilometers distant from town - Montego Bay is a common (and uggly, as far as I saw) city taking profit of a protected bay, with several beaches around it, and hotels spreading along almost 100 kilometers of coast. Kingston Warnings and Dangers

First off I had a great time in Kingston. That being said, it is definitely for the adventurous traveler only. It can be very tense at times especially in the downtown vicinity but this applies to pretty much 90% of the city. Uptown is a little more forgiving but not by much. If you do not feel or look confident of yourself I would not recommend...

    Kingston Transportation

It seemed to be quite congested leaving Kingston around 6:00 PM. Took us twice as long to get back to Ocho Rios then it had for us to get there earlier in the day. Also, lots of "windshield cleaners" approached and cleaned our vehicle without asking first, throughout our day in Kingston.

    Lucea Shopping

Conceived to act as a real city, the big resorts have a complementary shopping area that goes far beyond the common gift shop. The variety is not too big, and the prices are high, but if you go outside and visit a mall, you will find out that it is almost the same, since the malls are also oriented to tourists.

The resorts mean a heavy investment, most of it in... beaches. There is too much artificial details in some of the visited beaches, with the hotels trying to control the coast. Good Sun Block or Prepare To Burn

by Xamayka Updated Mar 7, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: This is a rural area, so "dressy" clothes aren't necessary. Lightweight, loose-fitting, and comfortable are the keys to being at ease. Ladies might want to bring a skirt if a trip to Sav-la-Mar or church service is on your schedule. Flip-flops or sandals are sufficient for most occasions; a pair of water-shoes and walking/running shoes for "off road" adventures. Once you adapt, evening breezes can feel cool, a light windbreaker, long sleeve shirt, or wrap takes the "chill" off. Fitted clothing is OK ... tight or revealing clothes are not.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sunblock. Sunblock. Sunblock. SPF 35. Even if you have darker skin, unless you live in a similar climate, YOU WILL BURN. Insect repellent is recommended. The area is generally dry, but after a rain the mosquitoes will be looking for you.
