Beaches are the best program in Caribe and Ocho Rios is no exception. Our resort had a couple of artificial beaches and a natural good one, but the best that I saw out of Negril was Dunn's River beach. Everybody concentrates in the falls and forget the beach, what is unfair. It´s really a very good beach, a few kilometers west of town.

When you read in a brochure or advertising that your hotel is in "Montego Bay" be prepared to stay a few (or many) kilometers distant from town - Montego Bay is a common (and uggly, as far as I saw) city taking profit of a protected bay, with several beaches around it, and hotels spreading along almost 100 kilometers of coast. The all-inclusive package meant that 90% of the people we saw in the beaches and pools were carrying... a glass with a colored drink. In both sides of the biggest beach, in the pools, in the lobby, everywhere, with or without music, with or without rum, the rule was... to drink.

Warm water, calm sea, reefs... it's Caribe. I saw no superb beaches, no interesting cities, no remarkable highlights, but the beaches, nature and the professionalism of the all-inclusive packages really allow good vacations.

First off I had a great time in Kingston. That being said, it is definitely for the adventurous traveler only. It can be very tense at times especially in the downtown vicinity but this applies to pretty much 90% of the city. Uptown is a little more forgiving but not by much. It seemed to be quite congested leaving Kingston around 6:00 PM. Took us twice as long to get back to Ocho Rios then it had for us to get there earlier in the day. Also, lots of "windshield cleaners" approached and cleaned our vehicle without asking first, throughout our day in Kingston.

Conceived to act as a real city, the big resorts have a complementary shopping area that goes far beyond the common gift shop. The variety is not too big, and the prices are high, but if you go outside and visit a mall, you will find out that it is almost the same, since the malls are also oriented to tourists.
