The Green Parrot.: Awesome little place...

    by MartinK35 Updated Dec 12, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Green Parrot is not somewhere you would easily stumble across unless you were specifically trying to find it. Tucked away off the beaten path by a marina, you have to take a bit of a stroll past the police station and negotiate a peculiar arrangement of fences and a lack of a sensible footpath to get there. It's only a 5 minute walk from Atlantis but well worth venturing out to for an authentic Bahamiam bar and grill in the open air.

It's much quieter, cheaper and friendlier than the more costly and pretentious options in the flashy resorts and hotels. It's a bit scruffy, rough around the edges and the wiring in the restrooms looks quite dangerous but the food and atmosphere is superb.

Favorite Dish: I only stopped by for a quick snack and some beers, the Coconut Shrimps served with an orange marmalade type dip were a delight even though it sounded a bit strange to my British palate.

    Eating without going broke

Bring snacks and water/soda. It will save you money. I brought Pop tarts, water, soda, Nutri-grain bars and assorted other snacks. My kids are light eaters, especially at breakfast and these saved us from having to pay high breakfast rates. And after seeing the lines for the buffet breakfast, I'm glad we did not pay extra for a meal plan, especially since you have to wait in enough lines later in the day for the water slides.

Get the family pack of four hamburgers, two fries and four sodas at the pool-side food bar for $22. Even though we only had three people (because my husband couldn't take off the time from a new job), we still saved money from the day when I bought three meals at the same food bar for three people.

Keep the cups they give you at the food bar and refill on sodas throughout the day. We never actually did this, but you can if you want.

Places that are relatively cheap for the Bahamas to eat: Johnny Rockets, the Marina pizza place in the hotel ($6 for a big slice or $18 to $20 for a whole pizza), Quizno's. Both Quiznos and Rockets are higher than America prices, but to be expected. Across the street from Johnny Rockets at the ferry check in for the dophin experience there was a small takeout place that sold something called patties that looked like tacos in a way for $2. They looked good, but I didn't get any. They also had hot dogs, et cetera.

The souvenier store near Quiznos sells soda for $1 and water cheaper than the hotel and cheaper soveniers than in the hotel.

News Cafe, Hurricane Hole Plaza: Near Atlantis, open 24 hours, save $

    by patrick808 Written Sep 6, 2007

If you are a guest at Atlanis and want to save 50% or more on water, snacks, soft drinks and meals, take a short walk to Hurricane Hole Plaza.

Maybe 100 yards from the Marina Village, where you can also find Starbucks and Jamba Juice, follow the arrow on your resort map.
You will need to cross the street a couple of times. But, your trouble will be rewarded.

Sept 2007: The News Cafe is open 24 hours. They have a small menu of breakfast items including pancakes, french toast, bagles, breakfast sandwiches, etc. Salads, burgers, sandwiches are also avaiable. Takeout and table service is available.
