Favorite thing The so-called House of the Dukes of Brabant in the Grand Place - actually a group of 7 houses, each with a different name. The ensemble is called 'The Dukes of Brabant' because on the first floor, under the windows, the statues of the dukes can be seen. No duke or king actually lived here. The names of the houses are: The FAME - The HERMIT - The FORTUNE - The WINDMILL - The TIN POT - The HILL - The BEURS
Favorite thing The spire of the Hotel de Ville in the Grand Place
Brussels was originally built around the Grand Place. The central area of the city near the Grand Place has a pleasingly distinctive style of architecture. Miscellaneous events such as expositions are held in the Grand Place. Modern Brussels is built outward from the Grand Place.
Favorite thing THE TOWN HALL
When entering the Market Place from one of the seven side-streets, one's eyes are drawn automatically to the gothic tower of the town hall pointing skywards. Up to this day the 'Hotel de Ville', or 'Stadhuis' is considered to rank among the most beautiful city halls in the Low Countries.
Fondest memory We were sitting outside a cafe on Grande Place on a saturday night when the lights went out and music started. The illumination of the flowers of the Tapis des Fleurs took place and it was an atmosphere to die for. A hot summer night, a cold drink, beautiful music and lights....
Favorite thing come to the world famous Grand-Place to chill out. Yes, this is indeed one of Europe's finest medieval squares... and the main tourist attraction of the city of Brussels. Magnificent Renaissance-styled houses formerly belonging to guilds and corporations (as I've been told) line the square.
On Sundays, this whole area turns into a lovely flower and bird market respectively. Others (like the locals and tourists alike) are seen spending their time wandering around and admiring the beautiful buildings.... Some were even spotted sitting down on one of the many terraces having a good Belgian beer. :-) At other times throughout the year, concerts and musical happenings are organized and, I guess THE most famous events that take place here are the annual Ommegang (a historical procession at the beginning of July) and the Flower Carpet Show.
Hm, I think I can stay here all day and never feel bored!
Fondest memory Standing in front of the buildings in this square, and seeing the beautiful facades was an awesome sight. When I was a child I had a jigsaw puzzle of the buildings, taken during a flower market, that I did over and over again. To see it in reality was one of my best memories of this beautiful city.
Favorite thing The Grand Place is the probably the most famous place of Brussels, and, when you're standing in the middle of it, you quickly understand why... It's just hectic !!!
Favorite thing You will find the town hall in the Grand Place... The town hall is a beautiful building with lots of decorations...great for photos... :)
Favorite thing Beautiful set of Guild houses dominated by the Town hall and the King's house. Sit down on one of the terraces, have a good Belgian beer and admire the square!
Favorite thing Spend some time wandering around at the Grand Place, the main square of Brussels, it is really beautiful!
Favorite thing The beautiful Grand Place, right in the center of the city, has a flower market most days and is a good place to start from - just walk in any direction - somehing interesting will turn up.
