"Nezavisimost" Square, From A Different Angle

    by Balkan_Yovo Written Feb 26, 2005

"Nezavisimost" Square, from a different perspective. The people, who have gathered are most likely waiting to catch a "marshrutka" (a kind of a shuttle), whcih will take them home, in the suburbs. Concerning the building with the sharp roof, it's the former "Party House." Don't get me wrong, though. It's never been a pleasure spot (although some people may argue ;-). It used to be the headquarters of the Communists before they ceased to run our country. Now, it houses a few Parliament Commitees and there's an idea to refurbish the building's interior and move the entire legislative branch there.

Address: The heart of the city.

    "Nezavisimost" (Independence) Square

The centralmost square of the city. The left part of building behind the flags, which you see in the picture is "TSUM" (Central Universal Store), which has turned into an expensive shopping center.
