  • Vega: Vega, three in one

by Annebl Updated Nov 30, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Vega is a building containing a bar called Ideal bar, a large concert venue where some of the biggest bands that come to Copenhagen play, and a nightclub. It's not a bad place, good music, good drinks, centrally located...I just feel like it lacks a bit of character, but maybe that's just me..

    Dress Code: Quite casual

    Address: Enghavevej 40

Directions: Walk from the main station up Istedgade or Vesterbrogade(the "wrong" side of the station), or take a bus. It's about a 10-15 minute walk.

    Vega: Concert venue/club

Vega is both a club and a live venue.
It's probaply the most popular place with young danes at the moment.
It has several gigs a week with both danish and international bands.
It also has a nice bar next door called ideal bar.
This is a little off the tourist track and a good place to go if you want to meet the local danes.

    Dress Code: Casual

    Address: Enghavevej 40

    Directions: It´s located at Vesterbro.
Nearest subway stop is called "Enghave".

    Store Vega: Club venue

by sorenf Updated Aug 10, 2004

Vega consists of Store Vega, Lille Vega and Ideal Bar. This tip is about Store Vega only.

Store Vega isn't really a club, but a venue that almost every weekend hosts a club night of some sort. Store Vega can accomodate 1500-2000 dancing revellers, and it's always here that the big international names perform. The venue consists of a big 2-level main hall and three lounges with bars all designed in classical 60's style danish design. A true gem designwise, and definately worth a trip for the design interestred. For all the rest of us, it's is an exellent club with the best soundsystem, but the lightings get dull after a few outings.

As mentioned its not a regular club, but a venue where several outfits stage their clubnights and big names have independant concerts.

The most important semi-regular club is "Okyo" ( who have in the past billed names like Sasha, Paul Van Dyk, Sander Kleinenberg and Nick Warren to name a few.

All concerts/clubs appear on's calendar, where you can even buy tickets online.

Dress Code: None. Some dress up here, so you wont run the risk of over dressing, but t-shirt and jeans are also ok. All in all: Relaxed.

    Address: Enghavevej 40

    Directions: Vesterbro

    Vega: All night long!

OK, having spent all day in the office and with a young daughter at home, I tend to go back to Sweden in the evenings, with the exeption of our "Pub Club" nights after work once a month (when we try to find places not affected by the Carlsberg monopoly). This is why Copenhagen nightlife is not my speciality (but ask Claus or Soren - VT's cashiero and sorenf - for details) but I would nevertheless recommend Vega as many colleagues say it's THE place to go to. Not only is it central, it also has live music of all kinds on the different stages, as well as the more traditional disco scenes. This is IT for nightlife right now and popular amongst the Malmö crowd too when we cross the strait to have fun.

The Vega complex, housed in a magnificent 1950's trade union building, is one of the most popular night life venues in the city and with the opening of a new, super-cool Vega Lounge that popularity looks set to continue. After opening in 1996, Vega quickly built a reputation for attracting big name acts (David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Bjork and Prince, among others Ive seen suede playing there three nights in a rown last month of october 2002, and its been great, nice atmosphere, good view from every point, and great sound, ). It also has a strong reputation for luring the best DJs in the world (Fatboy Slim has played here), and has been consistently voted among the five best DJ venues in the world by Muzik and Jockey Slut magazines. Vega, located in Vesterbro, is divided into four main areas: Store Vega (Big Vega), a concert and club night venue with a capacity of 1,500; Lille Vega (Little Vega), where you'll find the best Friday and Saturday club nights; and the Ideal Bar, which also has DJs and live bands at the weekends. And finally, the much-anticipated Vega Lounge has opened in two rooms across another floor. Vega Lounge plays soulful music, has waitress service, an extensive drinks menu and a relaxed vibe, all wrapped up in decor described as '1950s with a 2001 make-over'.

  • Vega and Märkbar: Going out Vesterbro!

by zerlang Written Jul 11, 2006

No doubt, when visiting Copenhagen one MUST go to Vega. Not only do they only allow people over 20, which means not too young a crowd, they have some of the best DJ's there. Electronica, dance and house on the main floor, and retro disco, rnb, rock, garage etc on the first.
Before going to Vega i recommend Märkbar on Vesterbrogade. A bar inspired by the Berlin barscene, that only plays rock - VERY cheap prices and brilliant atmosphere! Also, from here Vega is within walking distance and there is no need for busses or taxis...

Dress Code: Usually casual, but wear something nice.

    Address: Enghavevej 40, København V

Directions: Vesterbro. Take bus 3A to Tove Ditlevsens Plads or Enghave Torv.
For Märkbar, walk up Vesterbrogade on the right side when coming from the central train station.

You gotta go to Vega. You'll see alot of different characters there. The great thing about it is, thats it's actually 3 disco's in one Big Vega, Little Vega and Ideal Bar. Big vega a mostly used for concerts.
The music is so different than the regular places, much more underground, they play a variation of house, hip hop, soul and disco.

Dress Code: Dress cool and original.

Directions: Walk down Istedgade, And the building will pop up on your right side at the end of Istedgade. You can't miss it.

Copenhagen´s nightlife seen is meager. Alcohol is taxed big time here in Scandinavia. In other words, if you´re looking for a party, stay south.
