    The Notre Dame Cathedral

by wandeljp Updated Aug 21, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The Notre Dame Cathedral

The cathedral is a monument impossible to circumvent from Rouen: Immortalized many times by Monnet. (he had his studio in front for several years)

She was also a privileged place in the history of France. The trial, and the stake of Joan of Arc and her réabilitation is indeed held in the shadow of his ancestral towers.

It is strongly recommended that providing a audioguide to the tourist office (many languages available)

    ---oooOOOooo----

    ---oooOOOooo----

Fondest memory: The whole atmosphere, the quality of the welcome, the many small restaurants scattered around the historical heart, very useful contribution to the audioguide have made this stay an unforgettable weekend.

    ---oooOOOooo----

L'ambiance générale, la qualité de l'acceuil, les nombreux petits restaurants disséminés dans le coeur historiques, l'apport très utiles de l'audioguide ont faits de ce séjour d'un Weekend un souvenir inoubliable.

Our Problems with the Cathedral Stained Glass

by hquittner Written Jan 29, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The stained glass of Rouen's Cathedral ranges from the 13C (Chartres School Type) to the 20 C (Max Ingrand). Theold glass was preserved during the war and added to with more from destroyed churches.

Fondest memory: We found it very difficult to take pictures of stained glass windows. The undependable light and multitude of colors and details are hard to focus in a small viewer and the distance to the windows may be great (and we do not carry a tripod). For me it is just luck. Then there are the bewildering stories even if it is the Passion of Jesus which is well-known. Which panels to choose and what do they show? Where did we put our notes about the window locations?. This is abundantly clear at the Cathedral Notre Dame. We have selected 5 “successes” to illustrate the centuries on view. (There are about 5 better illustrations by others scattered among the 500 Rouen pictures, if you want to try to find them).

The Last Supper (The Passion) 13C; Ambulatory Another Passion Scene. (Which?) 13C 3 Virtues (Note Bishop Fighting Devil Center) 15C St.-Romaine (Patron St. Rouen) S. Transept; (1521) Chap. J. d'Arc; Max Ingrand (after 1950)

Favorite thing: visit Rouen's gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral in the main part of the city. The archetecture, as you can see, is gorgeous. I believe that this is the same cathedral which is pictured in Claude Monet's painting, 'Rouen Cathedral'.

Fondest memory: walking inside Rouen's Notre-Dame Cathedral. The sight of this cathedral inside was truly glorious! I think it's the only picture that I took of an interior of a cathedral that turned out!
