Climbing to Sacré-Coeur is not too hard, but after a day strolling in the city, the funicular is almost a blessing.
Not cheap, demanding one ticket each way, it is usually used upwards to visit the hill while descending to Clichy, and that was what we did..
If you don't want to climb the Montmartre hill, you always can opt for the Montmartre Tourist "Train", a motorized road train that just fits in the small Montmartre streets.
Start point is from the Blanche Métro station.
Timetable: Daily 10AM - 6PM with 30 minutes intevals in Summer/45 minutes in Winter.
Round trip ticket: 6.00 € (Adult).
The tour includes:
-Le Moulin Rouge
-Cimetière de Montmartre
-La basilique du Sacré-Coeur
-Amphithéâtre / Arènes
-Place du Tertre
-Les Vignes de Montmartre
-Le Lapin Agile
-Place Constantin Pecqueur
-La Halle et le Marché Saint-Pierre
Located in the 18th Arrondissement, the Funiculaire Montmartre is an automatic funicular railway which serves the Montmartre area. Operated by RATP (the Paris transport authority) it was opened on 13 July 1900, rebuilt in 1935 and again in 1991. It carries passengers from the base of the butte of Montmartre to nearly the summit, terminating within easy walking distance of the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur.
The Funiculaire Montmartre provides an excellent alternative to the multiple stairways required to undertake the same journey by foot. It carries its over 2 million annual passengers along a journey that takes some 90 seconds.
Single and return journey tickets can be purchased. Alternatively, you can travel for free as part of a Paris Carte Visite ticket.
If you are staying in/visiting Montmartre, I suggest taking the funicular up! The steps and hills can be very tiring. Of course you will want to take the steps at least once, just for the experience of it, but to save your feet try the funiculare. Your metro ticket will work here.
If you like me are too lazy to climb all the steps up to the Sacre coir, you can take the funicular, it works with Metro and Rer tickets, so for me it was a chance more to use my transport pass.
