Pont-Canal: Engineering Marvel
Completed in 1858, the Pont-Canal de l'Orb is an engineering achievement that transformed waterways in Languedoc. It allowed the Canal du Midi to bypass the perilous Orb River, which had previously caused navigation delays.
This aqueduct stretches 240 meters (790 ft) and stands 12 meters (39 ft) high, consisting of stone with seven spanning arches. It includes walkways underneath and was designed by Chief Engineer M. Magues under an imperial decree from Napoleon III.
