The name of this little iron bridge leaves no doubt why so many couple but actually most tourists and visitors come here for some scenic photos. Pont des Amours (Lovers' bridge) is a lovely spot facing Annecy lake on one side while on the other is the picturesque can du Vasse with the numerous fishing boats.
It was originally built in 1845, a wooden bridge at that time but a new three-arched bridge was built again in 1859 but the it didn’t allow the boat passing so another iron one erected in 1907, this time designed by Charles Galletto. The bridge connects two parks, Paquier and Jardins de l’Europe.
It’s a romantic spot but I’ve read that it may named like this because it was a meeting place for prostitutes in the past but ok don’t tell this to your girlfriend, just kiss her without spoiling the nice image. Don’t forget that legend says that after the kiss there you will remain together for life, now this could be problematic of course if you’re not ready for long term commitments :)
Unfortunately I saw some love lockers here too which makes no sense because the power of the kiss action is way stronger! :)
I think this is one of the most picturesque spot of Annecy .....the boats lined in unison, colours blended with the foliage on the fringe of my picture ..creating a soft and warm arch ...a beautiful example of the iron architecture ..simple but blending so nicely with the fairytale landscape...walkaround the lake and you will not miss it ;-)
The Pont des Amoureux (Lovers' Bridge), a beautiful example of the iron architecture typical of the 20th century.
