Strolling around the streets of Yvoire is the best thing you can do here. This old medieval village that was fortified by Amadeus V (count of Savoy) in early 14th century was always considered important due to its strategic location. Even today it’s really amazing to see how it is placed right next to Geneval lake. During the day you can see and admire the buildings, check the church of St.Pancras with the bright bell tower made by stainless steel, see the castle of Yvoire (closed to public), visit the gardens (free entrance) or just take pictures of the countless flowers all over the place, the shops, have lunch at one of the restaurants (some of them have great view) or just walk along the harbor side. You wallet may get a bit lighter too as there are many shops with souvenirs etc

I’ve read that during high season (july and august) it gets packed with visitors but what we saw on a cold winter evening was a beautiful ghost town :) It seemed like one of the most romantic places I ever saw but I guess with hundreds of visitors may look a bit different but still the serenity was so great that I loved it.

  • The Garden of Five Senses

by Gaiata Updated Feb 14, 2011

Beautiful, peacefully ans so original !

Taking its inspiration from the Middle Ages, this garden elaborates the theme of the five senses in the maze and in
the various green spaces. Smell, touch, contemplate, listen, and sometimes taste!

From time immemorial, gardens have symbolized Paradise Lost. . . medicinal and aromatic herbs, fruit trees, vintage
rose bushes, aviaries and fountains line a pathway where a collection of more than a thousand varieties of plants
    changes with the seasons.
