Dachau (Concentration Camp) Tips (6)

Favorite thing Go see Dachau. This former concentration camp in the suburbs was not quite what I expected. It wasn't necessarily easy to get to, but we're not taking about a trip to Disney World here, are we? It has a museum and film on the camp. Most of the dormitories have been torn down, but they have one reconsturcted to show you what it was like. What we found so weird was that this was in the middle of the 'burbs, not unlike those you'd find in America. That those things that happened, happened with people all around was just shocking. It's not like this was out in the courntryside somewhere. The day we went it was extreemly windy cold and it was sleeting. It seemed to fit the mood. There's a memorial which states 'Never again' in many languages. A must see, but not for fun. The pic is of a sculpture outside the front of the museum/old main building.

Dachau. Concentration...

Favorite thing Dachau. Concentration camp...
PLEASE... never never forget men's madness...

i wrote a little poem after visiting dachau...

MARE DELLA TRANQUILLITA'

Qui il vento è spirito

che anima le foglie.

Le ceneri volteggiano

da terra ...

Qui il vento è ghiaccio

che screpola la pelle,

sgretola le ossa ...

Qui il vento è testimone

di un pianto disperato,

che scappa tra caserme,

ammucchiate di fantasmi

spogliati di nome,

soffocati da numeri ...

lenzuoli bucati.

Qui il vento è follia

insopportabile,

è la suprema fobia degli uomini

volenterosi di gloria ...

Qui il vento ora è custode

della memoria,

ora è l'unico lamento

che sfila tra alberi

funerei.

Qui ora è tutto tranquillo ...

Dachau Concentration Camp...

Favorite thing We also visited the Dachau Concentration Camp which was nearby. It was a very dreary day which suited this place perfectly. It was terrible but interesting to watch the short movie about the camp but it was something we had wanted to see while in Germany.

The camp was built in March 1933 and more than 30,000 people died there...pretty sad...

Entry is free and it's open 9 am to 5 pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

Favorite thing We visited Dachau-a former concentration camp that is now a museum/memorial. It's interesting, but very sad. No one really talked when we were there, just because it's very overwhelming.
This is just one picture from the camp! IT's a statue that former prisoners built & dedicated to those who died there.

Favorite thing Get to understand the devastating effects of war. Take a tour of the concentration camp at Dachau. You and your students cannot believe how many people were crowded into such small living quarters.

Fondest memory I enjoy watching and playing soccer. If you are a soccer fan take time to visit the FC Bayrn Fan Club store in downtown Munich. Jerseys are inexpensive and you can get everything from cups to toasters with their logo on it.
