Fisch Witte on Viktualienmarkt
Viktualienmarkt is the very best ( and most expensive )place to buy any kind of food.
Everything is delivered freshly every day, and all the famous cooks of the jet-set-restaurants in Munich will buy their food there.
All sorts of fishes are available, fresh to prepare at home, or to taste directely there at the bar.
As food lovers, me and my husband nearly started crying when seeing Viktualienmarkt and realised that we could live happily in this city. It's not that we can't find good exotic food, or Swedish root vegetables at Möllevångstorget in Malmö with its immigrants, but we cannot find good FRESH food like this. Fruit and Italian delicatessen in abundance, and friendly people selling it. Just a tad expensive, but you get a lot of fruit for a small amount of money...perfect for a picnic in the English Gardens. The streets around Viktualienmarkt are also full of interesting shops, and the Müncheners are so civilised that they currently build an indoor market nearby, complete with wrought iron bars just like in Leeds! I'm in heaven...

Our first meal in Munich was at a bar in Viktualienmarket, the food market near Marienplatz. This is one of the nicest areas in Munich, with plenty of food stalls, samll restaurants and a large beergarden in the center and over the next few days we returned here many times.
Favorite Dish I tried the Weisswurst (literally White sausage), a speciality of Bavaria, with Paulaner, one of my favourite German beers. The Weisswurst is a little tricky to eat:) I had to watch someone at the next table before I figured it out. You don't eat the skin - instead either peel it off or squeeze the wurst through the small holes at the end. The latter sounds (and looked disgusting) so I tried peeling it. Weisswurst is quite tasty though a little bit heavy if you're not used to it. You'll be glad of the accommpanying pretzel and sauce to wash it down.
We wanted something quick, easy, and delicious. We got it here. For less than 8 Euro, we had two delicious soups, drinks, and bread for the soup. This stall was busy and popular with locals and tourists. More locals, really.
I had a great vegetable soup, and my husband had a very intimidating kloese suppe...one big meat kloese in the middle of his soup. He said it was really delicious!
There are tables set up inside and outside, and it's very casual and very pleasant. We bused our trays, but there is someone working there who will take it up for you. You order and pick up your soup inside the door, then bring it to where you want to eat.
Eating at the stalls in Viktualienmarkt is an experience that you should not miss. The variety of food on offer is fantastic and everything taste great. I tried various sausages on rolls with mustard, schweinehaxen (which only the Bavarians can do to that art), roast pork on a roll, cakes you name it.
Favorite Dish Cheese bratwurz on semel
The beer garden at the Viktualienmarkt is our favourite place in Munich. Every time we visit, we end our tour at this market, that is so enjoyable, sometimes we buy some delicacies and some bread and sit down under the chestnut trees and enjoy this "picknick" and some nice Bavarian beer!
I am addicted to coffee. Ok, I always was and since I am in Italy very often, I am even more. Coffee with vanilla or hazelnut is just not my thing. I want the real stuff, especially from delicious coffee beans and an excellent roasting process.
During my recent stay in Munich I was visiting Viktualienmarkt and was in desperate need of a good coffee. I asked around and ... viola, there is even a roasting facility on Viktualienmarkt. With the very simple name “Kaffeerösterei Am Viktualienmarkt”. And what can I say – excellent coffee! For an espresso I paid 1,90 Euro and later, for a latte macchiato I paid 2,80 Euro (July 2016).
How to find it among all the stalls on the market? It is located in the southern part of the market, almost opposite of “Der Pschorr” restaurant.
@mindcrime commented that there are no chairs. True. But just next to it are some benches and outside chairs like they are scattered all over Viktualienmarkt. Thank you K :-)

This is not exactly a restaurant but a square with tables and several self service places. But don't read this wrong: it is a nice place.
One gets the food, mainly Bavarian fast food, and the beer and then it's just a meter of enjoying the ambiance.
This a good place for getting cheap food at a small distance form the city center (Marienplatz).
Favorite Dish Leberkäse mit Kartoffelsalat (Liver stake with potato salad).
In Germany you will pretty much see pork everywhere. Chicken is hard to come by at times etc...
A really good, quick place to eat if you want Turkey is at Chicken & Chips. it is owned by the deli next door to it. From what we were told- all of the meats are different types of Turkey. I tried a couple and they were really good.
I am not sure why it is called Chicken & Chips if it serves Turkey but this is what we were told!
Favorite Dish Various styles of Turkey sandwiches, french fries...
This deli seemed to always have a line. They sell all different styles of sliced turkey, turkey jerky and other turkey products.
A local Munchener told us about this place when we were eating next door at Chicken & Chips. Supposedly the turkeys are organic and very healthy.
Favorite Dish We sampled a few types of Turkey jerky... All were pretty enjoyable.
In downtown Munich, go to Viktualien Market for breakfast. It's outside picnic tables are loctated in a central spot. You order a bier, pretzel and weisswurst (morning sausage) sit back and chill.
Favorite Dish The pretzels are as big as your head and wash it down with a good Weiss Bier!
Eat as German people do, and have your lunch at a local eatery. It's cheap and quick. In some places, you'll have to stand to eat, in others you can sit outside.
