    Crossing the street

    by pieter_jan_v Written Jan 6, 2016

Traffic is well regulated in town with traffic lights, also for the pedestrians.
Be aware that for crossing the street on foot you have to activate the traffic light by pressing the 'BITTE BERÜHREN' (Please touch) button at the lights.

We have the right of way (haha)

Wilhelmshaven cars have WHV license plates. For locals this means 'Wir Haben Vorfahrt!' (We have the right of way!). It's a joke of course, but watch out, there might be some locals on the road with a different opinion.

    Railroad crossing

    by pieter_jan_v Written Jan 6, 2016

There still is one major railroad crossing at Wilhelmshaven at the connection of the Mitscherlichstraße and Luisenstraße streets.
There are barriers to separate the traffic from the train. When these are blocking the road expect some backed-up traffic.

    The harbour industrial area

    by pieter_jan_v Written Jan 4, 2016

Wilhelmshaven has more harbours besides the one s for the Navy base.

Over the years the harbour and railways lost a part in goods transport in favor of transportation by trucks. Some parts of the harbour are deserted and run-down.

So, take care in this area.
