Just stop anywhere that takes your fancy and buy a bottle or a crate. This is when you might want a car to transport it all, but hey, bring a rucksack and at least a couple of bottles can go home with you. This picture is from a tiny village outside Altenahr.

The Ahr valley is renound for its red wine, and in Altenahr there is a winery at the bottom of the town.
This is the place to get your red wine to take home, the winery is very well set out and you can taste any wines before you buy.
We got a very good red wine for €5:50 a bottle we noticed that the hotels and restaurants were selling the same wine for €17:90 so not a bad saving.
If you go give it a visit even if you dont buy any wine.

Try the Spar, the small food and drink shop further up, and the wine shop on the other side of the road.
What to buy: The local wine is red, and is a soft fruity wine. Very easy to drink. If you don't drink wine, they also make red wine and white wine jam!
There are also plenty of fruit wines and liquers available. My favourites are Apfel Korn, or if you prefer something less sweet, Sauer Apfel Korn. You can try both of these in the local bars.
We also found some blackcurrant gin. Although this had been imported from Holland, it is well worth trying!
They also have a good range of wine vinegars and honey.
What to pay: About 7 - 10 Euros for liquers, and about 4 Euros for wine jam.

During season there is a very much improvised open-air shop which sells pumkins in all shapes. Most of them are for decoration purpose only.
