The island of Samothraki celebrates world music as well as appreciating ecological issues. The eclectic programme of this summer bash includes whirling dervishes, workshops on sustainable living and performances by Ross Daly, Ziad Rajab, Mario Piravano, Peppe Barra and Omar Faruk Tekbilek. It takes place at July each year.
As I have mentioned again, the island's local economy is based on animal breeding (sheep and goats). This "glitsa" (shepherd's crook) I am holding in the picture is used by the shepherds to pull their animals back to safety when they are "trapped" on some rock and can't move. I am standing on my toes and it is still taller than me ;o)
