The café at the Liston: built by the French in the same style as those in Rue de Rivoli, Paris; is probably the place to 'people watch' while enjoying a Ginger beer. (The British also left...

Corfu Island Warnings and Dangers

  • Rip off taxi drivers

In Corfu Town if you have to use a taxi, ensure it has a meter.Do not use them if they don’t or say it is not needed. As a tourist you stand a very good chance of getting skanked by these theives.Taxis elsewhere on the island are ok and honest drivers.

  • Beware of the wasps!

Beware of the wasps in Corfu, there are LOTS of them. At least when I was there I found them more annoying than the mosquitos (although I got bitten by them quite a few times..). The wasps disturbed us most while eating outside or sunbathing by the pool.

  • Dangerous Driving

Please do take care. While I was cruising my rented beloved scooter along the oceanside drive, I stopped to see what the people were peering at over the edge of the cliff. A CAR WENT OVER! There was a mere 18 feet of land, and thank god the Germans who drove over the edge landed safely, and they were very shooken up but appeared without a scratch!...

Corfu Island Tourist Traps

  • Grimaldi Minoan ferries

I took the ferry called "Zeus Palace" from Corfu to Ancona, Italy, because I thought Minoan Lines were a separate company which I had known from past travels on sea. As it turned out, Grimaldi Lines now manage Minoan - and from a past experience, I knew what that meant! The ferry was supposed to leave the port of Corfu at midnight, but it turned...

While driving around the countryside up and down mountains on the west side of Corfu you will pass through several villages and on to very small roads, this one particular rd was nothing more than a dirt track in most spots but we carried on driving to see where it would take us,the result is Paramona beach a very well hidden place and not something...

  • School warning

In my never ending search for school warning road signs, I was glad to find in remote villages of Corfou two interesting ones. Sorry, I do not remember the name of the villages.I like especially the first one which must have been locally made. The artist has given an unusual and ambiguous attitude to the two profiles! The second photo has a more...

I have tried to identify this amazing bush growing around the Mediterranean, always next to the sea. The fruits look almost like flowers. It has an amazing greenish wing all around that looks like a wide skirt. I have not found its name yet but will add it as soon as possible.

  • Hellenic Lager

Let’s make no secret of it. We both like a nice cold glass of beer. Being abroad is always a challenge to find a beer we like, which reflects our taste of having a beer. At Corfu (maybe the entire country of Greece) it was sometimes rather difficult. We found out that there are quite some local beers, only known in that particular area. But anyway,...
