Carlo Menta Tips (5)

Carlo Mente: Carlo Mente Ristaorante

Carlo Mente is another local trattoria where we enjoyed a cheap but tasty lunch. We found a table outside next to the picturesque old car (pic 1).

Our appetizer was bruschetta al prosciutto(garlic bread with Parma ham) for 3euros but they have some more (3-8e)

Their menu is typical roman of course with first courses like gnocchi, spaghetti, lasagna and other pasta).

We tried the roast chicken with salad (7e), the carbonara (6euro) and a vegetables soup(5e, they have also soups with beans, chickpea etc for 6e). Their menu also has grilled lamb/steak or beef fillet but we couldn’t try more). They have a touristic menu for 12euros that included an appetizer, 2 main plates and a dessert (by the way we tried crème caramel which was small but good)

Everything was good, maybe not perfect but accepted. The prices were very good for the area and the service quick.

It is open 12.00-23.20 non stop.

Carlo Menta: Avoid the tourist menu

If you want to dine avoid the "Tourist Menu." You will be disappointed with the restaurant. You'll get fast food service and preprepped entres.
However, if you go with the regular menu you can sit there and savor a meal while the sunsets over the canopy and watch the world go by. The wait staff was attentive without the pushiness you experience at some places.
The portions are normal sized, not like a New York Italian restaurant where there are always leftovers.
Outdoor or indoor dining.
Dinner for 2, no wine, appetizer, entre, water, espresso, and desert came to 23 Euros on 9/24/09.

Favorite Dish Bruscetta with proscuitto, rosemary chicken, saltimboca, panne cotte desert.
NOT from the "tourist menu"

Carlo Menta: Very cheap,and good!

When we firsta time passed by this restaurant, and check out their menu,we thought it can´t be a good restaurant, because it´s so cheap. Then we noticed that it was full of people every night, and we went in,too. It turned out to be a good restaurant afterall. And very poular also. They had biggest terrace,we did see in Trastevere, and still it was full most of time-and they also had tables inside-all full.

Favorite Dish Actually,i made a mistake.I choosed chicken, even if I know, that Italians don´t use lot´s of spices, like we do.So my chicken was quite tastless. It was only 5e.My husband took pasta bolognese, and it looked much better, and he told it was very good. And big enough as a maincourse. And it was around 5e as well!Wine was good(housewine) and also the desserts.

trattoria Carlo Menta in Trastevere: Typical italian restaurant!

They serve excellent spaghetti alla carbonara or all'amatricana. Also tiramisu fatto a casa. You can also enjoy drinking domestic white wine. It's interesting eating outdoor, because of typical italian atmosohere in quarter of Trastevere, charming, lively and sooo Roman.

Favorite Dish Spaghetti alla carbonara or all'amatricana.
