The Stella Maris is a tradition that occurs in Camogli every year on the first Sunday of August. “The Dragun” is the protagonist in a wonderful procession of decorated boats and ships, that hopes to remind everyone of the continuing history of a population of sailors and their ties to the sea. Thousands of lit candles are floated out to the sea in a beautiful event.
Address: Beach in Camogli
Directions: After sunset
The promenade de Garibaldi and the beach lie south of the imposing castle, with stores along the promenade as well as restaurants. But by walking north of the castle, you are in a functioning fishing village. Very few yachts here, all fishing boats. Men fixing nets, fish coming off the boats -- and directly into the several restaurants across the busy pedestrian street. When you get a dinner here, you can be sure the fish is fresh. You may have been seated before your dinner arrived.
