Established in 1543 by naturalist Luca Ghini, the Botanical Gardens of Pisa is the first university botanical garden globally. Originally located on the banks of the Arno, it was moved to its current historic center in 1591.
Spanning three hectares, the garden houses a vast array of international flora, including centuries-old trees like a ginkgo and a camphor tree along with medicinal plants like foxgloves. The adjacent Botanical Museum, founded in 1591, holds valuable botanical illustrations, educational materials, and an extensive Herbarium.
