  • Ponte Romano (The Roman Bridge)

    Aosta Things to Do

There are many monuments built by the Romans 2000 years ago, being one of them the famous bridge, that served the pilgrims of the Via Francigena to continue their pilgrimage to Rome.I found it thanks to a lady who helped me. It is not far from the railway station. It is worth a short visit. There are explanations about its construction.

    Aosta Off The Beaten Path

The Aymavilles castle, which was erected around the 12th century on a low hill descending towards the Dora River. It was rebuilt between the 14th and 15th centuries and equipped with 4 powerful cylindrical corner towers. In the early 1800’s, the old defensive structures were knocked down and the manor was transformed into an elegant residence, as...

    Saint-Vincent Things to Do

That's the most important monument in the town. The church, with ancient roman origins, has some relevant paintings and frescoes; it boasts an inner museum of holy art. The bell tower has ancient origins but it has been restored during the last centuries.

    La Thuile Restaurants

We asked the locals and they led us here, so we went for a late lunch. Lo Tatà serves delicious local dishes accompanied by wines only from the Valle d'Aosta region. I will forever dream of the reginelli with rabbit and pine nuts.

  • Mountain Base

    La Thuile Things to Do

We had to take a shuttle from our hotel to the mountain base - only a 3 minute drive away. As one would expect, the base contains all that is necessary - lift tickets, ski rentals, restaurants, and hotel. From here, a gondola takes the skiers to the mid-level of the mountain, and the ski slopes bring the skier all the way back down.

    Courmayeur Transportation

Closest airports: the closest airports are Milan and Geneva. For us - given we were able to fly out of London City Airport - Geneva was more convenient, even though you do have to cross two more borders on the way. From the airport: we rented a car at the Geneva airport and drove to Courmayeur, via Chamonix and the Mont Blanc Tunnel. There were no...

    Champoluc Things to Do

The wonderful cheeses of the Piedmont region are worth trying!Racclet (spelling?) is a fantastic way of enjoying the traditional 'fondue' style. A large block of cheese (literally half a wheel for 5 of us) is placed on a rack on the centre of your table and a heating element put across it (end on) - this then causes the cheese to slowly melt and...
