    Old ruins and big stones

Walking from the parking place to the castle, turning to the right, one can notice large stones in the ground. It may seem that someone here’s digging something. But! Very interesting is that this is the place where was located the old castle. I learn that research works are going on here therefore demarcation signs are here.

The old castle was built in the 16th century and even material from the old castle was used building the new castle.
Rundāle castle name comes from the German word Ruhental which means "peace valley".

I advice you to go to the ground floor at the start. There you will find elements of history: memorial stones and sculptures.
