Favorite thing: In autumn 1882, upon the initiative of Duke Bogdan Oginski the telephone line (54 km in length) connected Rietavas, Plunge, Kretinga and Palanga. Thus the first telephone in Lithuania rang in Rietavas just after six years since its invention. This date is considered as the beginning of telephonisation in Lithuania.
Also Rietavas had the first electricity lamp lit in Lithuania.
Favorite thing: When you're a kid and have to go to school every morning for 3 km by foot through the fields, forests and parks, you start counting your steps, counting the trees you pass, the cars that pass you or noticing the colour of the houses.. And I was amazed one day when I realized that all houses are .. yellow! yep! that was the main and the only colour of wooden Rietavas houses. Nowadays, it's not the rule anymore. But still I love seeing these yellow little old wooden houses...
Favorite thing: Rietavas is suffering from the Baltic sea weather a lot - in summer it feels chilly and weather is humid and windy usually while in other parts of Lithuania it's very hot and sunny.
In winter time Rietavas gets lots of snow but it melts faster than in other parts of Lithuania, the weather is humid and rainy, wind is strong from Western or Northern side.
Favorite thing: The fields of gold..
yeah... it's almost like in this song - when summer flowers bloom, all the meadows and fields look golden, snowy, rosy etc.. That's really a great time to visit Rietavas.
Fondest memory: I love that smell of just cut grass.. and I like the smell of hay.. it reminds me of so many happy moments of my childhood helping my grandma in hay time.

Favorite thing: Rietavas people are fond of ponds. They have at least two big ones in the center of town. One is called "Maluno prudas" which means a pond of mill.
Fondest memory: In summer time the couple of white swans used to live here. It's also a favorite place of local fishermen who prefer to spend their Sunday on the shore instead of listening to their "angry" wives..:)
