Train Tips (6)

Very Easy To Get To (And From)

As a major Dutch city (I think it's the 5th largest) Eindhoven is well-connected to the rest of the country by rail. Heading north there are regular services to Amsterdam, via Den Bosch and Utrecht; to the south is Maastericht, via Weert (where you can get connections into Belgium). Eastwards is Venlo (and onwards into Germany) and to the west is Rotterdam, via Breda. There are also direct trains to Schiphol Airport, via Utrecht.

The railway station (or should I say the main railway station since there is a "Stadion" station for the services during football matches) is pretty much in the city centre and has everything required from a major railway interchange. There's shops and cafes, left-luggage lockers, ATM's and a Travelex currency exchange. The bus station is next door where you can catch the direct bus to the airport (#400) and there's a cycle hire facility on the forecourt.

Also on the forecourt is the VVV Tourist Office.

Central Station

Central Station is situated right in the citycentre of Eindhoven. You will find the bus station at the North end of Central Station. Other parts of the city, towns and villages are within easy reach by bus. Taxis are available outside Central Station at the North and South end as well.

Take the train!

The trains...

Take the train!

The trains seems very reliable and are VERY on time.I found the prices fair enough. They are based on distance, class and return or not. Also, the payment is based on honor. You have to get your ticket froma machine or at the counter or Wizzl place and you might get your ticket inspected on the train.

It's a good thing to enquire about your itinerary beforehand thought because there are no maps inside the actual trains and you often need transfers.

A ticket to Schipol Airport is 15,60 euro

We flew to Dusseldorf 'cos it...

We flew to Dusseldorf 'cos it was closer to our destination.

Alternatively fly to Schipol!
You can hire a car quite easily, if the company is paying!!!

There is also an excellent train service, esp between Amsterdam and Eindhoven.
