Zaanse Schans Tips (11)

Windmills, windmills,...

Favorite thing Windmills, windmills, windmills... naturally, one must visit the windmills when in Amsterdam. Now, these 17th century structure & buildings were broken down & reassembled into an archetypal 'traditional' village in the late 50s so as to preserve the old way of life. ZAANSE SCHANS is where present day Dutch live in the cottages & do their daily tasks. Here, you'll get to see working windmills & the making of clogs.

Take a trip to Zaanse Schans.

Fondest memory If you have not seen a traditional windmill yet, then a visit to Zaanse Schans is going to be a worthwhile experience. You've seen enough pictures of beatiful windmills, so why don't go and see the real thing itself?

Favorite thing See the demonstration of cheese making.

Fondest memory Again at Zaanse Schans, you can get to see a demonstation of cheese making. After that, you can get to try different kinds of cheese. For those with the stomach for it, you should try the goat cheese. For myself, I love the smoked and garlic cheese. Don't forget to buy one back.

Zaanse Schans...

Favorite thing Make sure you visit Zaanse Schans!!!
It is like an open air museum that has some great typical Dutch places to visit - a cheese making shop, a clog making 'factory', windmills crushing seeds and other great stuff! It's the perfect place for a non Dutch person to visit!! :) Although our Dutch friends enjoyed it too...
