While Holland is not as famous for its cheese as a country such as France, this particular product, among many others of course, is absolutely spectacular. Even in a local Albert Heijn Supermarket, the quality of cheese is great. I recommend endulging in some cheese in any form, whether it be from a store or fondue or just really any which way you can. It's there for your enjoyment.
If you want to bring home cheese and the most popular cheese in Holland is Gouda (pronounce it with a h not a g) and comes in various conditions. It's probably enough to go for Jong (young) and Oude (old). If you're there in June get some Graskaas. Its very mild young Gouda and is beautiful. Best to buy your cheese in any Albert Heijn Supermarket. There?s a big one behind the Royal Palace open late and also on Sundays. Buy vacuum packed cheese with a long date. If you see cheeses you think you might like asking to try them is never a problem.
Also Albert Heijn will vacume any chese you like, which will give it a much better life than if just wrapped.
Holland is definitely the land of cheese. There are plenty of them (Edam, Mimolette, Gouda, ... ). The only difficulty in such a cheese shop is that of choosing !
