"Three Little Bottles". Historic local "tasting" ("jenever") house in the center city - just around the corner from the Dam Square. A handsome historic building that should be seen during the day - in order to appreciate the fine woodworking, and before your eyes are glazed over from the effects of the booze!
"Jenever" is Holland gin - a potent potable that's flavored with the juniper. "When in Rome. . . ) At our hotel, my friend and I picked up a coupon for a free shot of the house "jenever" here. Wow, that's potent. This is the kind of place that attracts both tourists and a few local serious drinkers.
De Drie Flesches, Genevre Proeflokaal from 1650.
Proeflokalen traditionally were associated with the distilleries making Genever (dutch gin). This is where the customers would taste the different barrtels of genevre before buying them. They are still a bit like a tasting shop rather than a bar.
Try a genever as an apéritif, served ice-cold in a small, cold glass, it really does stimulate the appetite.
