    Kam Yin: Champion Chinese

Situated at the Nothern end of the City centre five mins walk from China Town and the Red Light district is this small, cosy Chinese restaurant.Recommended to us by a local barmaid earlier in the day and im glad we took her advice. The food was simply excellent, friendly, quick service and reasonable prices.Nice decor inside and comfortable seating make this place a must for any Chinese food lover visiting Amsterdam.Superb.

Favorite Dish: For starters i had the four chicken sticks in four seasons sauce which was mouth watering. My main meal was sliced pork and vegetables with rice, very nice too.My partner had the spring rolls for starters and beef in black bean sauce with rice for main, she enjoyed it very much.
The whole meal with drinks came to less than 30 Euros, great value for money.

Kam Yin / Chang Express: Noodles - Eat In Or Take Away, Yum:)

This pair of restaurants have undergone a recent revamp but without the signage being changed and so the Chang Express bit is where the Kam Yin sign is and vice versa. They are in fact the same place but with one half being the takeaway section and the other a fairly informal sit down restaurant. Food is tasty, cheap and plentiful and if eating in the sit-down section I would advise sharing a starter (or even not bothering with one) as main courses are pretty substantial.

Favorite Dish: Special Pork Noodles - chunks of crispy, sweet and spicy, belly pork; slices of aromatic roast pork and stir-fry pork fillet, served with delish and plentiful stir-fried noodles. Tasty as this is as it comes: a good splash of ketjap asin (an Indonesian variant on soy sauce) and a teaspoon of sambal (chilli sauce) lift the flavours without destroying the taste buds. For just over 5 euros (plus a 3 euro beer) in the restaurant, being served by a rather deliciously attractive Oriental woman was just the job before commencing an evening of organic fruit smoothies in the local juice bars - HA!

    Address: Warmoesstraat 6-8, Centrum

Directions: Pretty much at the start of Warmoesstraat, opposite Hotel Internationaal.

Restaurant Kam Yin: A Taste of Suriname

Kam Tin started in this location near the Red Light District in 1980. They have survived the years by offering good food, a massive menu and reasonable prices. They always seem to be busy, but they treat you like an honoured guest and the food is excellent. They describe themselves as a Surinamese-Chinese Restaurant. This interesting combination is because the owners are from Suriname in South America. The former Dutch Colony was created using labourers from India, Indonesia and China. So they have an amazing variety of dishes you may never have seen before. As you walk in it looks like a large almost non-descript Chinese eatery. Don’t let this put you off. They offer hearty, tasty food with good-sized portions. I started with Won Ton soup. Yummy. For my main meal I ordered the Moksi Meli Kam Yin. This is a delicious mixed meat dish with roasted duck, pork, chicken, vegetables and a lovely sauce served with steamed rice. Also known as number 19 on the menu. This is what they call a Surinamese-Chinese dish. I just call it delicious, filling and economical.

With the lengthy and interesting menu choices you can’t go wrong here. They have a full Chinese menu as you would expect. They proudly offer Surinamese dishes, sandwiches and snacks. These include unique items such as Codfish Sandwich, Bami (pork with noodles), Pikante Tjauw Min met Kip (spicy Chinese noodles with chicken and prawns), Bojo Cake (coconut and cassava), and Baka Bana (fried plantain with spicy peanut sauce).

    • They deliver to hotels in Central Amsterdam from 17:00 – 24:00
    • The restaurant is open from 12:00 – 24:00 every day
