Flower Parade, Haarlem
We didn't get to see the parade at the start, sort of difficult with a 4 year old in tow. When he needs to nap, he naps!
Spent the Sunday morning walking around the market and marvelling at the work that went into the displays. We were blessed with gorgeous weather so the perfume form the3 flowers was fantastic.
An amazing amount of work went into the displays but the others things going on add to the experience. The choir was good, maybe not brilliant but enthusiastic and generally well performed.
The duo sang well after the choir, well worth a listen.
The roaming costumed birds were amazing, played well with the crowd and fantastic costumes!
The guys walking round as the cast from "Wizard of OZ" were good too...unfortunately the cowardly Lion wasn't so cowardly and a lot of children ended up crying XD
The Brass band were awesome. Lots of crown interaction....and if I would have knowne any of the words I would have joined in for the sing song.
A lovely 'free' morning, something that a lot of tourists seldom experience when visiting a city.
Lunch at L'anders Cafe. we sat there with friends, saw everything, enjoyed the scent of the flowers and had amazing service and some great food at a good price.

Despite an almost sleepless night, Caroline and me got up early to have a second look in daylight of the long row of wonderful creations.
I wonder how many flowers have been used? it must be a tremendous amount.
You can watch this parade by daylight when you chose a location in a village closer to Lisse (where the parade starts), or you can chose to come to Haarlem where they are stationed in the street "De Gedempte Oude gracht", enlighted in the evening on Saturday and accompanied by a flower market on Sunday.
Address: De Gedempte Gracht
The flower parade, starting in Lisse, infamous for their flowers, especially tulips (see Keukenhof page), and ending here in Haarlem when the night falls... 41 km
This year the parade had to suffer a lot of rain and cold wind but nevertheless it was marvelous.
The trailers with the flowerstatues are made of flowers that came from Lisse and Aalsmeer. The flowers that are used are hyacinths, narcisses and tulips. The parade goes from Noordwijk through Sassenheim, Lisse and Bennebroek to Haarlem and stays there for a day.
At the Flowerparade is always lots of live music and things to eat or drink. Also there are markets open in the streets near the parade. It is always busy in Haarlem on this day.
Go see the flowerparade! It is sometimes held in august, but most of the time the flowerparade is at the end of april.
