Pozegnanie z Afryka: Not a restaurant, but a great cafe

by afowles Written Oct 11, 2005

The first thing that hits you as you enter "Leaving Africa" is the smell. The front of the store is a shop where you can buy regular and flavored coffees from all over the world. The back of the store is where you actually get to drink the coffee. You can order from an extensive list of coffees and they'll prepare it in any of five ways: Szcherazde (a little weaker than an espresso but very flavorful), espresso, cappucino, viennese (with whipped cream!), and iced. English menus available.

To accompany your coffee some small snacks are available. I recommend the mazurek. Eschew the makaroniki--it's a cookie.

The seats aren't the most comfortable. This is not a place to spend a few hours reading. You'll be sitting on stools decorated to look like coffee sacks. But while you are there you will feel pampered. There is always light music playing and the waitstaff is incessantly friendly. The walls are decorated with work from local graphic designers and each table comes with a candle and a painted coffee grinder for show.

Make sure to pick up some coffee on your way out!

Favorite Dish: The Meksyk Highland Jasne. It's light but very enriching.

    Address: ul. Fredry 1

Directions: Across the street from Ogladek in Stare Miasto. On the intersection of Fredry and Mielzynskiego.

    BROVARIA: Home made beer

by aylar Written May 20, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A renewed building in Stary Rynek. It is also a hotel having 17 rooms. I did not stayed there but visited the rooms. The front rooms looking over to the square is very good. Next time in Poznan I will stay there.
The restaurant is large and well aqustic. Air condition is well working. You can watch a consert on a wide screen.

Favorite Dish: Having all types of dishes, local and others. I prefer to have their home made beer.

    Address: 61-772 Poznan , Stary Rynek 73,74

Directions: If you go to Stary Rynek, you can easily see it. But the restaurant is on the first floor.
