Dal Met Fu Tips (6)

Dal Met Fu: Dal Met Fu

After trying our hotel's restaurant, and typically failing to locate any of the other restaurants recommended by the LP guide, we decided we didn't need to go much further. Dal Met Fu offers a great range of Italian and international food, at very good prices, and with a taste that is excellent. Comparable to expensive restaurants in other parts of Europe, Dal Met Fu comes in at very good value, and is very popular with the locals. You are pretty much certain of failing to get a patio seat out on the square on warm nights unless you reserve ahead.

Favorite Dish Great pizza.

Now The Pelister formerly Dal Met Fu: You'll see someone you know ...

Under new management, the restaurant and hotel have taken the original name of the building.

Dal Met Fu is the most visible part of a Skopje empire. It's a good pizza place, but more than that it is where the international community hangs out, as well as a certain strata of Skopje -- so you are bound to see someone you know.

Favorite Dish Macedonian pizza. It's hard to describe, but does include roasted peppers and ajvar.

Dal Met fu: Under new management

This restaurant is under new ownership, it is no longer Dal Met fu, It's now called the Pelister and the food here is very good. It get's quite busy all day long, so there are some wait times associated with ordering. The atmosphere is clean and well appointed, and there is no smoking inside. The patio outside provides a lovely view of the new city centar attractions, and a nice breeze on most days. The dessert menu has has the local version of a molten lava cake with ice cream called "Topla-Ladno" which means hot and cold, and it is quite good. They have a salad bar that my wife absolutely loves.

Favorite Dish From my experience the pizzas are all quite good. The menu is quite varied so I haven't tried everything yet. But I haven't been disappointed yet either.

Dal Met Fu: ok, but not great

Dal Met Fu has a convenient location to several downtown hotels. The food is somewhat above average, but with all the great and inexpensive restaurants in Skopje, I wouldn't make an effort to eat there again. Also, when we were on our way in the door, three boys made a very aggressive and almost successful attempt at pickpocketing that resulted in a torn pants pocket. Then we were seated in the window and they proceeded to make rude gestures and spit. Yum! One reason to avoid downtown Skopje on a weekend evening.

Dal Met Fu: The best international restaurant in Skopje

This is the most centrally located Restaurant in Skopje on the Plostad Makedonija in the main city square. Therefore it is very busy and most foreign visitors to Skopje can be found there at one time or another. The ambience is cosmopolitan and the service is fast and efficient. The waitresses are all young with short skirts and friendly smiles. The menu is international and extensive and the size of the servings generous. It's also nice to go somewhere that serves something other than the skara(traditional grills) This restaurant seems to be open from early in the morning and closes late at night so it's also the meeting place for many locals as well, for the infamous Macedonian coffee (which some people call Turkish Coffee).

This restaurant is also gluten free friendly. They make a nice steak and chips and all that is required is to inform the waitress to be careful with cross contamination and no sauces.

In summer, there is seating available outside and it's very pleasant to sip a cool drink and watch the world go by. The other good thing about this restaurant is that in a city where everyone smokes everywhere (despite the non smoking signs) this restaurant has a non smoking section which is pretty unique. Also the toilets are always clean and it's well worth the price of a coffee or a drink to use them

Favorite Dish The pizzas in this restaurant are fantastic. The variety is huge and there is a local flavour to most of them. However it is the desserts that steel the show. They are all fantastic. The specialty this winter was the "toplo / ladno" (ie hot and cold). It is to die for and is a must if you are visiting Skopje. Hot chocolate oozing out of a chocolate pyramid served with ice cream. Lovely!!! Also worth a try is the chocolate and banana pancake, which is massive and technically, one serving would be enough for two people. However in reality it isn't because no one wants to share it.

The other perenial is the cake known as selska torta and we never visit Skopje without at least having it once

Dal Met Fu: Delightful dining at a premiere restaurant

Dal Met Fu is located in Macedonia Square and dining on the terrace allows you a great view of the Square and the river (depending on your angle). The food here is delicious and cheap (like everything in Macedonia) and the crowd is a mixture of well-to-do locals and foreign nationals who, I suspect, are primarily diplomats, NGO workers and the like. The menu abounds in fresh salads and local and international meat dishes, as well as local wines and beers. The service is extremely friendly and helpful, although it can be difficult to get their attention during the very busy dining times.

Favorite Dish I had the eggplant salad and grilled rabbit.... incredibly tasty and, together with mineral water, it cost me 420 MKD - less than USD10!!
