Church of St Kancijan: A Testament to History
The Parish Church of St Kancijan is Kranj's most significant house of worship, with its foundations dating back to around 1400. Built over an older church, this structure stands as a prime example of hall church architecture in Slovenia.
Its unique features include the Mount of Olives relief above the main portal from 1450, the modern altar designed by Ivan Vurnik in 1934, and ancient remains visible through plexiglass beneath the north side. Visitors can also see a lapidarium on the south wall, showcasing medieval tombstones.
