There was almost nothing on this menu more than 10 euros except for the 12.50 euro BOTTLE (yes, I said bottle, not glass) of Crianza (red wine) from Rioja. We stumbled upon this gem in Barcelona on Aragon (between Pau Claris and Passeig de Gracia). My wife and I and two little girls (5 and 9) walked in because it was completely crowded at 9PM on a Saturday night. We had to wait two minutes for a table for four and then ordered too much food because we thought the plates would be very small like tapas. We were wrong.
Favorite Dish My favorite dish was the Canneloni that my 9 year old daugheter ordered for 6 euros. The seared ahi tuna with hummus and an asian drizzled brown sauce was great. The beef sirloin with green pepper sauce was so tender it was unbelievable.
This place is Phillipino owned and 90% of the staff are Phillipino. Very attentive and have built a tremendous find in this economy which is why it is packed every night. But don't worry the wait is not more than 10 minutes and at 11PM when we were leaving there was still a line / queue although small out the door.
Our bill was 57 euros with 5 dishes ordered and a full bottle of nice Rioja Red Wine and a chocolate cake desert. And the tables were fine white linens.
This is a fine dininig atmosphere, not just a hole in the wall with great food.
You can't beat this place in one of the FINEST AREAS of Barcelona.
I sometimes wonder how they make money here in this high rent district but the amount of table turns they do when many other over priced restaurants are empty must make up for it.
There are almost ALL LOCALS here too - I think we were the only Americans in the place which was pretty cool.
Outside of the PHENOMENAL MEAL we had at Cinq Sentits - 2nd only to French Laundry in Napa, California - this was the 2nd favorite meal we had in Barcelona.
If you want to spend 130 euros per person and have the BEST FOOD and experience in Barcelona, go to Cinq Sentits. And do the PREMIUM WINE PAIRING for 50 euros per person.
Oh, this was our last lunch in Barcelona and what a lunch it was!
We drove slightly outside of the city at an area next to the sea where many restaurant specialized on seafood are. They were all packed with locals of course because it isn’t easy for tourists to come here. Because of the location the prices are higher here but the seafood is fresh (you can smell it!) and worth every euro.
Casa Rita (pic1) is a great place, with a lot of tables(pic 2) and great service. We ordered a huge paella for 6 persons (pic 2) although we were 8 because our locals friends told us that the portions are big anyway. It took almost an hour till the paella arrives (oh yes, no microwave for tourists here) but we didn’t waste our time!
The starters here were delicious, some kind of cream with garlic, oil and eggs that we eat it with bread and then some squids, mussels, and other great seafood filled with several tasty sauces. Some made the mistake to eat a lot and didn’t leave space for the paella that arrived! The waiter show it to us at the table and then we’ve been served on separate plates. Some tried desserts but even the coffee was great here.
We drunk some nice wine, several beers and we tried something that is typical in Barcelona but I didn’t like it at all, a beer with lemonade! (pic 4)
You must call for reservation. Closed on Thursday (not in summer)
If you are looking to have some great food and are not in a mood of spending a lot of money, this is the place to go. La Rita restaurant is run by a gastronomic school and the students are given practical traning in the final stages of their course. However do not worry, they are very well trained to give very good service.
The atmosphere of the rstaurant is very elegant. they have a menu for less than 10 euros in the afternoons. Even though the restaurant is spacious, get ther with some time as you may encounter long lines of people waiting to be seated. The food is great.
Favorite Dish Specialities from Cataluña. I also loved the Cod in garlic. Keep some space for the deserts as they are not to be missed.
Elegant and comfortable setting not far from the old city. Walking distance from La Rambla and other old city neighborhoods. Extremely reasonable, especially for someone with US dollars which do not feed very far. Simple menu. Several language versions shows an appreciation of the travelling foreigners.
Favorite Dish I had a veal steak. I do not remember the name. A glass of Cava to start and very good Catalan red wine to follow.
La Rita belongs to the red of some great restaurants, all very reasonable yet elegant with excellent service and most of all delicious food.
Favorite Dish The fish is great, quite often served with vegetables like asparagus or spinach. Local soups definitelly worth trying are Salmorejo and Gaspacho, other vegetable creamy soups are also great. They also have some delicious sofisticated salads and the deserts are not to beat - Postre del Timbaon is the greatest deserts of all, also served in other restaurants in this red (in Barcelona it's La Fonda or Quinze Nits for example).
