Cisalpino dining car: Dining in (!) the Alps

by Nemorino Updated Apr 28, 2015

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Cisalpino dining cars are run by Italian crews and have the kind of menu you would expect at an Italian (not Swiss) restaurant, with Antipasta, first course and second course selections. You could get a full Italian three course meal (with a "complimentary" aperitivo) for 30 Euros, but they also have a selection of smaller dishes, for instance various salads at EUR 8.50 each.

The dining cars on the Cisalpino tilting trains seat 29 people. Theoretically it is possible to reserve a table in advance, but I have never tried this nor found it necessary.

They also have a snack bar at the other end of the same car, and there is somebody with a wagon who comes through the train fairly regularly selling hot and cold drinks and sandwiches.

Update: Even though these trains are no longer run by the Cisalpino company, the dining car service seems to have been retained, at least on some of the trains. Look for the knife-and-fork symbols on the timetables.

    Restaurant Seegarten Marina: Pizzeria

by yumyum Written Aug 2, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Pizzeria Restaurant Seegarten Marina has a big outdoor terrace which is very popular in the warm season. The good news is that you cannot reserve the tables. So everyone has the same chance to find a seat outside.

For my pizza Hawaii I sat outside. Later a couple joined me at the table. The pizza was CHF 19.50 and the 0,5 l mineral water CHF 6.50. The restaurant has a lot of other popular (Swiss) dishes too, not just pizza.

Service was very friendly and attentive.

I hope to return there one day.

    Berner Oberland: Floating Elegance

by steventilly Updated Nov 16, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The bar/restaurant on the Berner Oberland.
It's a lovely ship with a beautiful wood-panelled interior, though, and I'm sure any meaty meals will be OK for you carnivores :-)

Favorite Dish: Beer and Ice Cream!!! Sorry, but that's all we had, as there was nothing particularly appealing to we vegetarians!

    Address: On Lake Thun (Thunersee).

Well, it's not quite a resaurant, but if you want to stay in touch with your VT buddies, and who wouldn't, then you're going to need an Internet Cafe. Luckily there's one here...

Address: Opposite the railway station in Spiez.
