    By coach to Middlesbrough

The coach is the most convenient way to get to Middlesbrough. The large coach station is well served by several lines from National Express and other companies. The two-floor station is clean and monitored by CCTV. In the lower floor, there is also a fast food restaurant. The coach station is located to the west of the city center, in walking distance to the train station. Coach services to Durham/Tees Valley airport are frequently while Leeds/Bradford and Manchester are served sporadically or only via other places like York.

    The train station...

by Airpunk Updated Nov 13, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Although Middlesbrough’s rise came with the train line, Middlesbrough’s importance as a train station is only minimal. The station is as old as 1830, but the current building is from 1877. Today, only Manchester (including Manchester Airport), York, Newcastle and some nearby places are well served. The train station is open from 05:30 to 23:30 (Sundays from 07:40 on). But the beauty of this Victorian Railway Station can also be seen frrom outside. Unfortunately, it does not have any left luggage facilities…

    Getting There

by keeweechic Updated Aug 14, 2006

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

By Air : Teesside International Airport is on the A67 and can be reached from both the A1(M) and A19, north and south. Centrally placed to cater for the whole of the North East of England, it is 6 miles from Darlington, 8 miles from Stockton on Tees and around 13 miles from Middlesbrough.

By Rail : The nearest main line station is Darlington (which is 6 miles away) and has regular services to Scotland and the South with the Intercity network.

By Bus : A bus stop is located directly outside the main terminal building with regular services which run every half hour to Darlington and every hour to Yarm, Middlesbrough, Redcar, Stockton and New Marske.

We actually took the train from London (after our international flight) and arrived at Darlington Station which is at the top eastern end of Victoria Road. Family met us to begin with then we hired a car for some of the time to get around

Close to the A19 and A66

Middlesbrough is easily accessible from the A66 by road. The road leads to the A19 which offers easy access to all parts of the country as it links with the A1/M1.

Free car parking can be found on Cannon Park Industrial Estate or at weekendsand evenings you can park free of charge in the huge car park near to the cinema. The only thing you have to be careful with is that there a few places restricted to cinema users only.

Parking in the other car parks tends to be around £2 minimum if you have to pay.

The area is served by train and bus. The train ride to from the 'Boro to Whitby takes an inland route, through some very scenic country. The bus follows a route that hugs to North Sea coast. Both make for a very pleasant trip.

As usual, depends how you travel.

By road, A1/M1 London-to-Edinburgh, then if heading south turn off on A66 at Darlington, if heading North turn off onto A168 at Thirsk. If you miss it, use A66 at Darlington.

Rail, main line London-Edinburgh, change at Darlington.

Plane, Teesside International Airport :-) is at, yes you guessed it, Darlington (Darlington isn't part of Teesside).
Car for getting out of town, walk when you're in town.

    By Plane to Middlesbrough

by Airpunk Written Feb 3, 2016

Durham/Tees Valley Airport (formerly known as Teesside Airport) is nowhere near Durham but between Darlington and Middlesbrough. Its IATA - 3-letter-code (MME) goes in the direction of Midllesbrough as well. However, it has only around four flights a day to Aberdeen (Eastern Airways) and Amsterdam (KLM) each. The next airports with more flights are Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester.
If you want to use this airport anyway, please keep in mind that there are few public transport options to get from/to the airport. The railway station (Teesside Airport) has only two trains a week and is not really an option. The next railway station is "Dinsdale", located in the village of Middleton/St. George which is a 40 Minute walk from the terminal away.
This leaves the bus line number 12 as the only feasible option. The bus however does not go to Middlesbrough but to Darlington (via Middleton/St. George). So the easiest way to get from the airport to Middlesbrough is to catch the bus and get a train from Dinsdale to Middlesbrough. Bus No. 12 runs every hour, tickets available from the driver. The trains between Darlington (via Dinsdale) and Middlesbrough run every 30 minutes on weekdays. A single journey from Dinsdale to Middlesbrough was 4,80 GBP in 2015.
For more information about Durham Tees Valley Airport and Middleton/St. George, please visit my Darlington site.

  • Middlesbrough Railway Station

    by jduck1979 Written Jun 29, 2008

Middlesbrough has it's own Railway Station, and from what I can make out it is served by both NORTHERN RAIL + TRANSPENNINE EXPRESS.

Northern Rail appear to do 2 routes to / from Middlesbrough.........
    1) The Esk Valley Line that runs from Middlesbrough to Whitby
    http://www.eskvalleyrailway.co.uk/

    2) A route that goes from Saltburn, through Redcar, through Middlesbrough, then finally to either Bishop Auckland or Darlington.

Transpennine Express, their service appears to be a route from Middlesbrough to Manchester Airport.
