This is a very useful bus service, running hourly from Barrow to Kendal, calling at Ulverston, Haverthwaite, Newby Bridge, High Newton, Lindale and Grange and then on to Kendal. I am not sure which villages the bus stops at after Grange, I normally use the service to travel to Grange as a cheaper alternative to the train.
Although a great sevice, don't expect it to be bang on time, as only two buses ply back and forwards and if there are any hold-ups on the road, delays occur.
The buses are modern double deckers which means there are more seats upstairs than downstairs. This can be a little awkward as pensioners, who have free bus travel, use this service regularly and not all of them feel they want to risk their lives by climbing the stairs on a moving bus!! Also, lots of pensioners boarding a bus add to the delays!
This express bus takes about an hour to travel from Barrow to Kendal and goes under the name of the X35 Express.
The fares are reasonable. As I've said, it's cheaper for me to travel to Grange by bus than train, paying £3.90 return on the bus and it's at least an extra £ by train.
