Located on the Calshot Spit in Hampshire, Calshot Castle was constructed between 1539 and 1540 under the orders of Henry VIII. This coastal fortification played a significant role in England's defense against potential invasions from France and the Holy Roman Empire.
The castle features a central keep surrounded by a curtain wall and moat. Initially equipped with a garrison of 16 men and up to 36 artillery guns, it has undergone various modifications throughout history. Surviving the English Civil War and modernized in the 1770s, it served multiple purposes, including as a base for coastguard operations and seaplanes during World War I.
