Formby is situated just outside of Southport.
Lifeboat Road in Formby is famous for its natterjack toads, an endangered species you may find among the dunes. The are protected by law, so if you do come across one , leave hin well alone. Formby is also famous for growing asparagus. In 1776 Britain's first lifeboat station was built in Formby. And last but not least, Formby resident Colonel Adam Gladstone, founded the National Rifle Association in 1860. The stretch of coast is now owjned by the National Trust and there are guided walks available.
The Old Grammar School of Churchtown was originally built in 1729 and was converted to a National School in 1826. Today it is the home of the Conservative Club.
There is a lake snaking its way around the botanical gardens where its a popular place to hire a boat to row about enjoying the scenery ands the wildlfe along its banks.
The whole village ofd Churchtown is delightful with its thatched cottages. The wrestler Shirley Crabtree - better known as "Big Daddy" lived in one of these old cottages.
