    Masyaf Citadel

    by graeme83 Written Jan 18, 2009

Masyaf Citadel is a very well preserved castle in the Hama District. Originally created in the Byzantine era, it rose to prominence in the 1140s under Sinan Rashid ad-Din as the centre of the Nizari Ismaili State.

There are great views from the top of the castle around the whole area.

The site itself is totally devoid of tourists. In a 30 minute wander I met three Syrian students and that was it (They supported Arsenal).
