We choose not to take the hotel excursion trips. We like our personal freedom.
SO - every city like Alanya and Manavgat got its otogar . That is a place a little outside town where the local transport gathers together.
We arrived by Dolmus and booked the large luxurious bus then.
When we went back from Aspendos , we wanted to go to Side. This was very wel organized by this company , there was a little bus waiting along side the road that took us to Side.
It was easy to book a bus there to go to Aspendos. Every twenty minutes there is one.
One problem...the site we wanted to visit was a little bit away from the road...But hey... up to the next tip.
This train is locally called "Tramway" and provides some of the public transport. We did not need it, we found the walks along the beach far more pleasant and all within "downtown Side" is easily reached in short walking distances.
Dolmus's look like old minibuses, they are cheap but you wouldn't want to go far in them especially in the heat and they can get crowded.
The prices are fixed you pay the driver after telling him where you want to go. Sometimes there is a price list in the window and the destination is on the front.
Well worth the money. We hired 2 scooters for about £8 a day each and a minimum amount for petrol...............they take 95 petrol.
Roads were not that busy which was a result as this was Suzie's first go on one but do remember as with many places abroad the locals don't take much notice in rules and regulations.
Most of the time you are given Scooters without insurance so don't damage them because if you do you will have to pay....................the same if it gets stolen and make sure you point any damage out before you leave the owner, also note that most travel insurance does not cover you for accidents and injuries to you while riding one and hospital care in Turkey is very expensive.
You should be asked to show your licence when renting but sometimes this detail is missed out. You don't need an international licence from the U.K. but you should have your U.K. licence (both parts).
Although its unlikely that you will get stopped it is illegal not to wear a crash helmet
Most of the hotels in Side are placed not in the historical centre but few kilometres away. To the centre you can get by dolmush - a minibus.
