    Head to Hemlock

by kehale Written Dec 30, 2014

Though Hemlock is actually located in Agassiz (between Mission & Harrison), I decided to post it to my Mission travel page. It's a pretty short drive to Hemlock from the area, and worth visiting - especially if during the winter months.

Our first visit was in December of 2014 as a day trip to let our little girl play in the snow. We hadn't had enough snow in Mission yet for her to play in, so we headed up there to try out the new toboggan she had received for Christmas. There wasn't enough snow yet for the ski hills to be open, but there was more than enough to romp around in the snow and glide down the hills on her toboggan. We had a great time with our friends and the scenery was beautiful with all of the trees dripping in snow.

Hemlock would also be a good option to get away for a couple of nights as they have a wonderful little village with affordable condos and a nice little bar/restaurant.

I would say if are an expert skiier, you are better off visiting a resort like Whistler where you will have some really challenging runs. Hemlock is better if you want a cheaper ski resort, smaller runs, a chance to learn or a place that may be a bit less busy than Whistler or one of the North Shore Mountains.

    Cool off at Hayward Lake

by kehale Written Dec 4, 2014

Located north in Mission, near the border with Maple Ridge and the hydro electric dam, is Hayward Lake. It's our favourite place to escape to on hot summer days, as it doesn't seem to get quite as busy as other beaches in the area, and has a nice sandy beach for little one's to play on. The water is cool and the scenery is beautiful. We've also noticed that the temperatures is a tad cooler here as there is so much greenery in the area - it really has become our oasis.
We love to pack a little picnic lunch, water and healthy snacks and enjoy the day playing in the water and sand and taking in the fresh air.
If you plan on visiting try to arrive as early as possible to ensure you can get a good parking spot and a prime spot on the beach. There are geese in the area, so you'll have to be careful of goose poop, but other than that - the area is perfect!

Directions: Access is from Dewdney Trunk Rd. If coming from the west, watch for signs before you cross the Dam. If coming from the east, the turn off is just after you cross the dam, on the south side of the road.

by kehale Written Jun 10, 2014

If you are in or around Mission during the summer months, the Mission Farmer's Market is always worth a visit! Taking place every Saturday from 9am - 1pm in the back of the library parking lot you will find lots of wonderful things! Fresh produce, lovely preserves, locally made goods (including my favourite soap and shea butter lotions), entertainment, crafts and face painting for the little one's and lovely treats to snack on.

Address: 33247 Second Ave, Mission, BC

Directions: At the parking of the library parking lot

    Head to the Park

by kehale Written Feb 3, 2014

Heritage Park is such a great space in Mission. The park is huge so it's perfect to go out for a stroll with the little one's or furry friends. There is also a big sandbox with lots of toys, which our daughter is a huge fan of! In the summer it's a great spot for all of the outdoor events they have. Festivals and outdoor concerts are only some of the events that happen here! It's just a great place to enjoy the gorgeous weather and some views of the Fraser River and Fraser Valley. It's one of my favourite places to visit with our little girl on a beautiful day. I grab a coffee at The Blackberry Kitchen and watch her play away in the sandbox!

Directions: The park is located off 5th Avenue east of Stave Lake Street.

    WESTMINSTER ABBEY

    by Skye_Miles Written Apr 16, 2003

Westminster Abbey is on a 180 m elevation above the Fraser River, a 200-acre site that includes the abbey grounds, farm, and seminary campus. Its most distinctive feature is the abbey church and its tower with a ring of ten bells; these may be heard Sunday mornings for fifteen minutes before the 10:00 o'clock Mass, and on Sunday afternoons for fifteen minutes before 4:30 Vespers.
