    Richmond Night Market

If you want to feel like you've stepped out of North America and onto the Asian continent, the Richmond Night Market is your place. While it only occurs during the summer months (from June up until the end of September), this is definitely a must see for local Asian culture.

The Richmond Night Market is a collaboration of 100+ vendors selling all kinds of odds and ends - clothing, shoes, jewellery, stationary, plants, pet accesories, toys, CDs, DVDs, used video games, and much more. While it's not a high end shopping experience, it's a fun, energetic atmosphere and you can usually haggle the price.

The best part to the Richmond Night Market, in my opinion, is the food fair. It's not fine dining, but offers a great selection of Asian street food. While BBQ meat/seafood on bamboo skewers is the most common, you'll find a variety of sweet and savoury dishes - bubble tea, red bean cakes, Korean sweet rice pancakes, dragon's beard candy, shaved ice desserts, fresh fruit smoothies, bubble waffles, corn on the cob, mini donuts, hot dogs, crepes, BBQ pork buns, gyoza, okonomikayi, Vietnamese salad rolls, wontons, Chinese dumplings, curries, soups, and more.

The Richmond Night Market is only open on Fridays (7pm-midnight), Saturdays (7pm-midnight) and Sundays (7pm-11pm). Its address is 12631 Vulcan Way, Richmond (north of the intersection of Bridgeport Road and Sweden Way). Richmond is just south of Vancouver. This is an ugly industrial big-box area of Richmond, so don't expect much scenery. When you see the Ikea and the Home Depot, you'll know you're in the right area. Just follow the crowds north along Sweden Way.

The easiest way to get to the Richmond Night Market is by car, although you can reach it by bus as well. Maps and directions are located on the official website.

In Asia there are not a lot of malls so outdoor markets are very popular. The market provides entertainment for the whole family after sun down. The goal of the Richmond Night Market is to bring this concept to the West. At the market you will find games, rides, fortunetellers, gadgets, electronics, toys, clothing, accessories, music…anything you can think of is probably sold there. If you like to buy knock-off stuff like Versace, Louis Vutton, Guess etc . . . this is the place to be. In Asia no price is ever set and the market is no exception, so make sure you don’t settle for the price they post. – definitely dicker (hehehe sorry had to giggle because it is such a funny word) over the price!
What are we missing here? Food!!! You’ve got to have food! The experience can not be complete unless you try some of the food sold at the market. I would recommend trying bubble tea and for the more adventurous - try the curry fish balls on the stick.

The Richmond night market is located at Bridgepoint (where the Great Canadian Casino is). The Market runs from Juen 6, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7pm –12am until September 28.

If Richmond is too far and you want to experience the popular outdoor market, try the Chinatown Night Market. in Vancouver. The China Town Night Market is a smaller version of the Richmond Market. It runs in the summer every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. It starts at 6:30 pm and goes until 11:00 pm. The market is located between Main and Gore Streets ( right in the heart of Chinatown).

P.S Sorry about the picture. My photoshop skills are terrible. I wanted to include the "City of Light "-Richmond Night Market sign in the picture. It's not that bad is it?
