Sam's Deli Tips (2)

Sam's Deli: Customized Sandwiches

A good option for healthy food as you can have your sandwich your way just like in Subway (but much more tasty). It is a popular restaurant for both turists and locals so it gets very crowded sometimes but you don't have to wait that much. Soups and salads are also available.

During summer, enjoy your sandwich in the patio while watching a street performer, a parade or just to look at the always beautiful Inner Harbor.

Sam's Deli: Soups & Sandwiches at the Inner Harbour

I've lived in Victoria (on and off) for about thirteen years, and I always avoided Sam's Deli. It's located on Government Street, right across from the Empress Hotel. It's location makes it a top choice for toursits, so I always assumed that the prices would be ridiculous and the quality would be low. However, it's Sunday today and I was stuck downtown looking for lunch at 3.30 pm (not exactly the lunch hour)... so I decided to venture inside.

I was pleasantly surprised! Sam's Deli dishes up a wide variety of soups (including homemade chili, corn chowder and clam chowder), salads and sandwiches. Prices are really affordable, and there is great patio seating right on the street. They also serve up ice cream made by local favorite Roger's Chocolates. Service is cafeteria style.

I had the corn chowder and it was excellent. It was served with whole-grain bread and butter. I'm definitely going to consider Sam's Deli when choosing lunch spots downtown in the future- I wish I had checked it out before!

Sam's Deli will serve your lunch to-go, and they pack things up perfectly if you need to eat on a boat or bus tour! Their menu and other information is available online at the site below. You can even order online and pick-up your food at the restaurant!
